Guests @Grays - Charles Emerson!

I've been lucky enough to attend almost all of the Guests @ Grays lectures and they have been superb. Its really nice to see an artists work and then get some insight into the ideas and process behind producing that work. Last week saw a wonderful presentation by Scottish writer Carl MacDougall who readings were pretty moving, touching on the subject of death with a very Scottish vernacular that sent shivers up my spine! If you aren't familiar with his work then find out more HERE!

Also in the same week saw a nice presentation by Bristol based photographer Charles Emerson. Emerson's work touches on some interesting subjects and ideas with a lot of experimentation and simple ideas well executed, leading to rather beautiful results! It was great to sit in and hear Charles talk about his development from University to photographers assistant and finally to finding his own feet in an increasingly busy market but its Charles keen eye and experimentation which keep him ahead of t…

'Humble Occupation' @ Project Slogan!

Just some snaps from the 'Humble Occupation' opening by Stray Dog at Project Slogan. Each cup has been hand crafted by Ehren Tool, a US based potter and former US Marine. His work deals with the theme of War and its filtration into mainstream culture and the impacts this has on our perceptions of it.

Ehren was kind enough to set up a Skype session from his basement studio, so while we looked at his work he was making more cups across the globe and having a wee dram too. Very nice chap and some really beautiful and engaging work, if you didn't make it down yet then I highly recommend popping in tomorrow before its all boxed up and sent back to the US. Big pat on the back to Craig, Jim & Dave (Stray Dog) for getting the work over here and setting up such an amazing show!

Deid Sleekit @ Stray Dog / Studio 26!

Stray Dog bring yet another exciting exhibition your way, this time in the shape of  Deid Sleekit (wont make any sense if your not versed in Doric) showing new work by Stewart Forbes Ross. Stewart is a Grays graduate and has taken part in various group shows but I think this will be his first solo show since finishing at Grays. I have no idea what the night will hold but judging from what I've seen so far, expect to laugh a lot and to be bathed by one of the warmest smiles in Aberdream! Facebook deets here! Deid Sleekit will be followed by POST # 6, expect music, dancing and more art!

Studio 26 - Into The Light!

Been a few changes over the dark months at the end of 2011 into 2012 down at old 26. First up some sad news, Kieran has up sticks and moved back to Edinburgh to have a break, save some money and probably make some more awesome art before moving onto so amazing projects further afield, I think were all pretty sad but also chuffed to see him go, good on ya and can't wait to see what he does next!

But with him moving out its made space for 2 new people to move in who both seem very nice and make pretty nice looking work. Also we have a band moving into the project room for the forseable future, Indian Red Lopez will be a great addition to the collective! POST # 5 went down with another new podcast recorded and almost ready for upload and finally the new and improved Studio 26 dark room is almost ready for public use. A few more days of knocking, sawing, hammering & painting should do it. All this as well as the usual gang of top artist's like Jim Ewan & Amy Dowes working a…
