I randomly picked up a Cody Hudson book in Analogue when I was down in Edinburgh last month. It contains some pretty neat drawings as well as some skateboard shaped sculptures. The general vibe of his art work just struck a chord, simple yet it totally captures something. I've seen a lot of people who try to make work like this but guys like Cory definately take it to another level as far as ideas and execution go. You can see more if his work at his Struggle Inc site HERE!
Musically I have recently been exposed to The Drums. Listening to Lets Go Surfing and having just started surfing made for a match made in heaven. Also just have come through some emotional problems I've found The Drums have managed to perfectly soundtrack the mixture of happiness and sadness. It always nice when that happens although there's something so cheery about they way they sing about relationships that I think ill soon be associating the album with good times as apposed to sad times. Here's a few snaps from Let It Bleed Present Pete Tong. Let It Bleed have been very good in taking me on board to produce original visuals for their nights so firstly massive thanks to them! Pete Tong played some heavy dance music, not really my cup of joe but I found some guilty pleasure in the super Radio 1 Dance hits, you know the ones with generic female vocals, banging! Continuing from my pic with Jas Shaw, I decided if the lads let me get a pic I was going to do it while wearing my new Spongebob Jumper. Well lo and behold said photo awaits your eyes below.
But I think its fair to say it was a belter of night, the crowd was well up for it and everyone seemed to be having fun. Also the Let It Bleed crew always put a lot of effort into their events so gotta show some love for them! As they say, onto the next one!
So we got a shed load of dark room equipment, pretty much everything you need and being the skilled chap that he is Kieran (whos birthday is also today, Happy Birthday bro) has got everything set up and working! As much as we try to make the studio's nice the dark room / bathroom could only really be described as ghetto! But thats ok, I used to have a dark room set up in my grans shed and it was awesome! You can see some snaps of the new facilities below and also for anyone of a certain age who went to Aberdeen college and did their HN/D Photography & Imaging, the old Aberdeen Photolab shop will hold fond memories! We will probably be opening it up to friends so holla soon for more details on how to get down!
andOne of my best friends has set up shop with his sister in the west end of Edinburgh. You can find Brass & Copper at 18 William Street, 5 minutes from Princess Street! They do some pretty special coffee, some of the best in Edinburgh as well as a fine selection of home made soups, sandwiches and Tara's amazing home bakes! They are also exhibiting art works from a selection of local artists and photographers, the latest work on show is from Heather Malsen. Its a nice place to go and escape the bustle of Princess Street and I promise you won't find nicer people than Joel & Tara so pop in if your down that way and say hi from Jonty!
