Noah & The Whale @ Aberdeen Music Hall

So from one band that I've liked for ages in Edinburgh to a band that I've only really gotten into over the last couple of weeks but thankfully I managed to get the very last ticket, no 500, unreserved seating, was pretty chuffed about that one.

The night kicked off with some amazingly loud bang from Zane Lowe, the show was being broadcast on Radio 1 as part of their student tour, Noah & The Whale had already played an acoustic session for Fearne Cotton at the Lemon Tree earlier in the day, check out the vid below.

So with it being Radio 1 the crowd was a mixed bag of Noah fans and teeny boppers who didn't seem to know why they were there but hopefully they have been set on a good path of musical taste and actually going out to gigs, a valuable lesson I learned early on!Support came from Ben Howard who is well on the way to big things, he played to a sold out Music Hall on the Monday and came back for his own headline show in the wonderous piss hole that is Cafe Drummonds, which I've heard was also fantastic. Looking forward to getting his album for the long winter nights ahead, some easy listening while I type away in my loft!

Anyway Noah & The Whale seemed to come out of nowhere and ripped into songs from the new album. Sitting right at the very back on the upper level we managed to get a pretty good full view of the stage, thankfully the Music Hall isn't a massive venue. The massive colour changing back drop looked pretty impressive all the same and who ever was controlling the lights for the band deserves a big hand because they were spot on, each bulb reflecting the mood of the songs. The first half of the set was filled with up beat radio friendly numbers, I guess what you'd expect being broadcast on Radio 1 an all but once the broadcast was officially done the guys took the pace down a bit, playing some slow burners from their second album, Blue Skies being a particular favourite, you can see a video below!

All in all a pretty fantastic gig shared with new friends, I'm sure Ben Howard & Noah & The Whale will have picked up some new friends along the way aswell! All photos from the LauraWhispering blog. "Cause no one, is gonna get in my waaaaaaay, gonna figure it out for myself..........."
